Education: Often has a degree in discipline such as nursing, fitness, or sports medicine. No specific requirements but many positions require on the job training in addition to a certificate from the International Associated of Wellness.


Demand for this profession: The wellness work field is expected to grow 37% between 2010-20.


Reflection: being a wellness specialist seems boring and i personally wouldn't look into this type of career.

Duties and responsibilities: diagnose and treat various athletic injuries, recommend and implement specialized treatment plans to help heal injuries, document patient progress and answer patient questions or concerns.

Salary: $161,205

Education: To specialize in sports medicine first you need to be a physician. To become a physician you need 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school and the appropriate amount of residency needed to become a licensed medical doctor. You’ll need to participate in a residency that is relevant to sports medicine such as orthopedic surgery .

Demand for this profession: 19% in athletic training and 18% for physicians (2012-22)


Reflection: this career path doesn't interest me because helping people isn’t what i wanna do for the rest of my life. It’s a good career option but not for me.

Duties and responsibilities: Speech pathologists (or speech therapist) assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent communication and swallowing disorders in patients. They help prevent illness, surgery, stroke, or injury. They will work with a patient individually or in a group.

Salary: $73,410

Education: In the Us the entry level for this profession is a masters degree. Clinicians must hold a masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology that is from a university that holds regional accreditation and from a communicative sciences and disorders program that is accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. (ASHA)

Demand for this profession: Expected to grow 21% in next 8 years.

Reflection: The speech pathology field does not interest me in the slightest.

Duties and responsibilities: Medical Scientists do research to come up with stuff that will improve human health. They conduct studies that investigate human disease and ways of preventive care and treatment of disease, develop instruments for medical applications, prepare and analyze medical samples, standardize drug potency, doses, and methods to allow for distribution of drugs and medical compound, work with health departments, industry , and physicians, and follow procedures to avoid contamination and maintain safety.

Salary: $82,240 / $39.54 per hour

Education: Students usually need a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field. Medical Scientists usually need a Ph.D. to enter the field but having a medical degree really helps in their career.

Demand for this profession: expected to grow the average rate of 8%

Reflection: Being a medical scientist doesn't interest me as much as being an actual doctor.

Duties and Responsibilities: Reflexology involves application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. The goal of a reflexologist is to relieve a person's stress or tension in their hands/feet.

Education: To become a reflexologist you need to go through massage therapy programs to learn. These programs include programs such as exercise physiology, nutrition, and pharmacology. After the massage therapy programs aspiring reflexologist can continue education in a reflexology certificate program.

Demand for this profession: i couldn't’ find any information on whether this profession was in demand. 

Reflection: i would not want to be a reflexologist because i hate feet and i would not want to work with them for a living that would be gross.

Registered Nurse

Duties and Responsibilities: A registered nurse has many duties in their job such as performing physical exams and health histories, provide health promotion, counseling, and education, administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions, and interpret patient information and make critical decisions about needed actions.

Salary: $43,402-$83,171

Education: The educational requirements for a nurse are as low as an Associate's’ degree. Many RN’s enter the professions by earning Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) ADN programs are available at community colleges or vocational colleges and usually take 2-3 years to complete. They combine classroom instruction with hands-on training in hospitals, clinics, or other healthcare setting. Some nurses may want more comprehensive training and decide to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing(BSN). That level of education usually takes 4 years to complete but RN’s may receive accelerated programs.

Demand for this profession: Registered Nursing is among the top occupations in terms of job growth through 2022. The workforce is expected to grow 19% between 2012 and 2022.

Reflection: Registered Nurse does seem like an interesting field of work but i want higher education such as being a doctor.

Education: A bachelor’s degree is required to start becoming a recreational therapist. Educational programs typically cover areas such as treatment and program planning, human anatomy, physiology, and professional ethics. A lot of employers prefer to hire candidates that are Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialists.(CTRS)

Demand for this profession: Job outlook is expected to grow 12% in 2014-2024

Reflection: Recreational therapy doesn’t interest me because i’m not very good at working with other people or giving advice.

Military Trauma Surgeon

Duties and Responsibilities: A military trauma surgeon is a surgeon that works on a battlefield. These kinds of surgeons have to think very fast. They also have to be very quick on their feet and they can’t hesitate to make decisions about their patients. Surgeons will have to assess their injuries and stabilize them before they can be transferred to another hospital for long-term care.

Salary: $87,350

Education: A military trauma surgeon first has to become a surgeon before they enroll in the army. They have to go 4 years of college and 4 years of medical school to learn everything any other surgeons do. They also have to learn how be quick on their feet and how to make quick decisions before wanting to enroll as a trauma surgeon. 

Reflection: This career does not interest me because it’s too risky. Helping because is a good career choice but i wouldn’t want to do it in a place where everyone’s life is at risk.

Education: in the US a neurosurgeon must complete 4 years of undergraduate education, 4 years of medical school, and a 7 year residency. During residency neurosurgeons learn the technical aspects of performing surgery, as well as ways to prevent infections and non-surgical management of patients who have neurological problems. Neurosurgeons may pursue additional training in a fellowship after residency or as a senior resident.


Demand for this profession: Demand for this profession is expected to grow 24% between 2010 and 2020.

Reflection: Neurosugery kinda interests me because you get to work with the brain but it’s a lot of hard work.

Education:The first thing you need to become a mental health counselor is a bachelor’s degree. Then you need to earn your Master’s degree. YOu can take courses such as psychopathology, domestic violence, substance and sexual abuse, personality disorders, gender, grief and counseling and group counseling. You also need 3000 hours of post-master’s. Finally you earn licensure.


Demand for this profession: The outlook for this type of job is very positive.

Reflection: I wouldn’t want to become a mental health counselor because i’m not very good at helping people with their problems.

Veterinarian
Duties and Responsibilities: Veterinarians administer vaccines, do health check-ups, clean teeth, fix broken bones, treat skin infections and perform surgeries. Vet’s also involve inspecting the living spaces of animals on farms or ranches to ensure that they are free from possible sources of infection.


Salary: $50,036-$101,057


Education: First step to becoming a vet is attending undergraduate school. Coursework should focus heavily on the biological and physical sciences, such as chemistry, genetics, microbiology and physiology. Studies in communication, social science, humanities, and mathematics are beneficial for the transition into vet school. Applying to veterinary school requires to take a  college admissions test. Students must complete 4 years of veterinary school. The first two years mainly focus on basic science education in the classroom and laboratory. The final two years consist of clinical instruction, allowing students to gain hands-on experience diagnosing and treating animals with the supervision of a licensed vet. Fourth year solely focuses on clinical rotations in animal hospitals and private practice.


Demand for this particular career: the demand for veterinarians isn’t very high because there isn’t much work for them to begin with.

Reflection: I definitely want to be a veterinarian because the career interest me a lot and i would love to work with animals.

Reflection: i would consider being a psychologist because its nice to help people with whatever problems they’re dealing with.

Education: A psychiatrist must first have a bachelor degree in scientific disciplines such as physics, organics chemistry among others such as liberal arts and humanities. They must then complete 4 years of medical school, an internship, a residency, and then become certified and licensed.

Demand for this profession: there is a high demand for psychiatrists in the U.S

Reflection: i maybe would think about becoming a psychiatrists because i liking helping people out with their problems and being there for them.

reflection: i would not want to be a neonatologist because dealing with newborns sounds really scary to me.
