This quote is saying that unless you know what your goals in life are, then you won't go very far. If in school you don't have a goal such as good grades, then you won't be motivated to do your work and earn a good grade. In life if you don't have goals set for yourself, then you won't get very far. You need to have goals so you have a direction set for yourself and you know where you're going. Instead of being in the same place all your life. If you want a good career then you have to set goals and work for it if you don't want to stay in the same dead end job that pays minimum wage all your life. Set lots of goals for yourself and you will go very far in life. The more goals you set the farther you'll get. You need to know what your goals in order to work hard and reach them. If you don't have goals set for yourself then you won't be motivated to do anything and you'll stay stuck and not go anyway in life.
