Ambulance Dispatcher
Duties and Responsibilites:
An emergency
medical dispatcher is a professional tele-communicator, tasked with the
gathering of information related to medical emergencies, the delivery of assistance
and instructions by voice, before the arrival of Emergency Medical Services,
and the dispatched and support of EMS resources responding to an emergency
call.
Salary:
The average salary
of an ambulance dispatcher is $40,000 in the year of 2015.
Education:
The
education/training needed to be an ambulance dispatcher may be offered by
private companies, community colleges, or by some large EMS systems which are
self-dispatching. The minimum amount of
training to become an ambulance dispatcher are 32 classroom hours covering
topics such as, EMD Roles and Responsibilities, Legal and Liability Issues in
EMD, National and State Standards for EMD, Resource Allocation, Layout and
Structure of EMD Guide cards, Obtaining Information from Callers, Anatomy and
Physiology, Chief Complaint Types, Quality Assurance & Recertification and
Stress Management.
Reflection:
I would not want to be an ambulance dispatcher because I’m bad at helping
people. I would not be good at doing this really fast or dealing with injured
people.
